After 35 years in practice, people often ask me, “Dr. Kaplan, what keeps you going?” The answer comes easily: I love what I do because every day, I get to help people see—many of whom thought they never would again.

As an optometrist specializing in medically necessary contact lenses, I work with patients whose vision can’t be corrected with glasses—people with conditions like keratoconus, corneal scarring, severe dry eye, post-surgical complications, and other complex eye diseases. These are individuals who often come to me frustrated and discouraged. My role is to offer them something more than a prescription—I offer them hope.

Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed incredible advances in contact lens technology, and I've had the privilege of customizing lenses for some of the most challenging eyes. What drives me is that moment when a patient puts in their new lenses, opens their eyes, and realizes they can see clearly—sometimes for the first time in years. That moment never gets old. It’s as powerful today as it was the first time I experienced it.

I’ve built my practice around listening deeply, understanding the full picture—not just what’s going on with someone’s eyes, but how it’s affecting their life. Over the years, I’ve learned that success in this field doesn’t just come from clinical expertise—it comes from compassion, patience, and a relentless commitment to problem-solving.

This is more than a career to me. It's a calling. And after 35 years, I still feel a deep sense of purpose every time I help someone regain their independence, their confidence, and their quality of life through better vision.
